This mini-course provides a quick reference on the subject of directed verdict applications, which are defence motions requesting the dismissal of a criminal case on the basis that the Crown has failed to prove one or more essential elements of the offence charged.

The substance of this mini-course was reviewed by the Honourable Shannon Smallwood, now Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories, in March 2022.
