Hello and welcome to this course on Indigenous-led options to addressing crime. The main focus of this course will be on Indigenous approaches to justice and how these can work with the mainstream criminal justice process to generate better outcomes for offenders and victims.
To lay the groundwork for this conversation, we will begin by looking at Indigenous law along side the concept of Restorative Justice, and identify how they are related yet distinct. This course will then introduce you to Indigenous-led justice initiatives. Finally, we will discuss what judges, and the justice system more generally, can do to better respect the needs of Indigenous communities.
