Introduction

In this course, you will learn about the enduring impacts of colonization on Indigenous Peoples in Canada, with a particular focus on how the legacy of colonialism has contributed to the significant over-representation of Indigenous persons in the criminal justice system that was outlined elsewhere in this bundle.

Perhaps the most important thing to take from this course is that colonization is not a past event. It is ongoing. Indigenous people continue to feel the effects of discriminatory practices and views, all while dealing with the fallout of earlier policies and programs.
